Sounds of Healing is a cross-cultural collaborative world tour for and about healing with Saffron Caravan, our professional world music ensemble and Genesis Academy Summer Institute graduates talented in creative writing and music. Sounds of Healing is the first program out of our Genesis Peace Hub, the physical legacy piece of Genesis at the Crossroads, our 23-year-old not-for-profit organization. We build peaceful communities at the intersection of social justice, education, and the arts to foster healing locally and globally.
We orchestrated Sounds of Healing in 2020 during the pandemic with a 33-person collaborative team including 31 artists from 17 countries. We reached thousands of audiences in 35 countries through virtual platforms. In 2022, we began the live, in-person world premiere at Chicago’s Adler Planetarium and in Jackson Park, Chicago with performances planned around the world:
- June 2023 to Capitol Hill in Washington, DC for the US Congress & Chicago
- December 2023 to Mauritius in Africa
- June 2024 to Berlin, Germany in collaboration with HTW Berlin
- Normandy, France – for the 80th anniversary celebration of D-Day
- Future performances in Ghana, South Africa, Brazil, the UAE… TBA.
Our artist-in-residency program and companion roundtables engage youth across the socioeconomic spectrum in a creative writing, music, and STEAM education program to work with one another and experientially explore what it means to heal people, communities, and our physical environment. Our lyrics competition allows participants to have voice and agency in these critical issues and compete for a place in our Sounds of Healing printed and online songbooks. Genesis at the Crossroads will reward prizes of state-of-the-art home recording equipment to the top three lyrics so the creators can continue putting their talent into the world.
